Tuned mass damper (TMD) -Design, Analysis, Modeling and Simulation

The TMD was modeled, simulated, and analyzed to see its effectiveness in reducing the vibrations of tall structures due to strong winds or earthquakes.

The spatial pendulum with a diameter of 5.2 m was suspended using 6 cables and was tuned to a natural frequency of 0.18 Hz. It was attached to 6 long-stroke viscous dampers (hydraulic cylinders) and the damping ratio was selected based on trial-and-error.

The code was written in MATLAB. The TMD was modeled and simulated in Simscape (toolbox of MATLAB). It was actuated by a perturbation of the structure it was attached to.
